THE STORY

A passenger (Daniel, from Brisbane, Australia) politely approached me as I was chatting to my friendly Bartender (Willy Wu from China) in the 'Quill & Compass' pub onboard Royal Caribbean's ‘RADIANCE of the Seas’ Cruise-Ship, while I was on a break between sets. Daniel introduced himself, and after exchanging some quick pleasantries, he went on to explain how hard that he & his wife had worked for the past 2 years, slowly saving whatever money they could, and the sacrifices they had made just to ensure they could afford what was a "trip of a lifetime" for their entire family (with a young daughter & son).

I could see the tears welling-up in Daniel's eyes as he described the wonderful excursions that the 4 of them had just experienced together in Hawaii, knowing that all would now be remembered & cherished forever, by the people who are dearest to him. You see; Daniel was wise enough to recognise that their children were at an age when those precious memories they were all forging together would remain with them for life, and help shape them into the young adults which they were quickly growing into.

Acknowledging the value & importance of his family's time together, Daniel asked if it was possible for me to play this song ('Dream Weaver'), which was a long-time favourite of his, ever since he himself was a child. I was more than happy to accommodate his fine request because I truly admired his passion for bringing joy to his wife & children, and felt completely honoured to offer whatever I could towards their family ‘trip of a lifetime’.

I felt that Daniel's request was particularly appropriate for a ship full of people who were delighted by freshly made memories of our recent adventures & spectacular times spent in & around the Hawaiian Islands, while being gently rocked (by the ship's motion) into our deep sleeps each & every night, as we all drifted off into 'dreamland'. I also felt quite emotional after hearing Daniel's story that night, and really enjoyed performing this version specifically because of the ‘dream-like’ seven (7) days we had all just experienced during our previous week on the Islands of Niihau, Kauai, Oahu, Molokai, Lanai, Maui, Kahoolawe, & Hawaii; each of which are truly magical.
