THE STORY

I use to visit AVALON (the only city on Santa Catalina Island, just off the coast of southern California) once a week (every Tuesday) for six (6) months when I performed in the ‘Casino Bar’ onboard the CARNIVAL Cruise-Ship 'PARADISE' out of Long Beach, California, for a series of 3-day & 4-day 'Booze-Cruises' (YIKES!).

You can imagine why this song was always a very popular request during each of the 4-day 'Booze-Cruise's from the Home-Port of Long Beach, California (every Monday) to Catalina Island for a day (every Tuesday), followed by a quick visit to Ensenada, Mexico on the next day (every Wednesday), and then anchoring at sea for one final day (every Thursday) before returning back to Long Beach (every Friday).

I grew to really love this beautiful little community, and owe it a debt of gratitude for it's fine hospitality. I have such fond memories that I thought I'd share a few of my own photos, like those of the cool little customized golf-carts (including the miniature 'FedEx' delivery wagon) which can be seen starting at 01:45 of my video. Most of the Island's Residents seemed to use them as their main method of transport around the island. In fact; I don't remember ever seeing an actual full-sized vehicle on the Island at all.

During my regular visits to Avalon, the Church (as seen in the couple of photos between 02:27 & 02:36 of my video) always offered me great sanctuary for a bit of peace, and I also just happened to discover an absolute Gem of an area ('DESCANSO' Beach Club - photos between 02:58 & 03:39 of my Video) where I could usually hideaway for most of the day on my own. Normally an exclusive Resort, ‘Descanso’ was always closed for business every Tuesday during the ‘off-season’ for the entire duration of my 6-month contract, from October through March. Happy days!

As with every song in my entire ‘CRUISE COVERS’ collection, this is a self-produced live recording which required MUCH multi-tasking in order for me to capture this audio while also performing at the same time! This audio track was recorded at sea, just off the coast of Santa Catalina Island (commonly referred to simply as 'Catalina Island'), California, and is located approximately 22 miles south-by-southwest of Los Angeles.
